ABiK Vortrag: Educating for Empathy - Pedagogical Perspectives from Global Classrooms
"Empathy is a primary driver of prosocial behavior, and a foundational skill for building close interpersonal relationships. Empathy has the power to motivate altruism towards those in need, foster connection in the midst of conflict, and even bridge racial, political, and geographic divides. The problem is, we don't empathize with all "others" equally. The empathy we are born with is directed primarily towards our ingroup, and empathic bias towards racial outgroup members has been clearly documented. Fortunately, it's possible to expand our circle of empathy and develop more 'inclusive' empathy towards diverse groups. Empathy is a skill that can be fostered in the classroom, and preliminary research suggests empathy training can provide a host of positive outcomes."
